When I needed a neighbour were you there? A line from a hymn I knew as a young child sang in school assemblies now acts as a reminder of the call of Jesus on our lives. My friend Rob responded to a blog on facebook, and his review prompted me to write this blog. The point the original writer alludes to, and which my good friend Rob Farnes pick up on is how do we make a difference with our plenty for those with little. There is a joke that goes like this… A man gets to sit down with God and ask a question…” Lord, why do you allow all the famine and hurt to go on in the world when you have the power to make a difference. God smiles and says, I don’t believe it….that was the same question I was going to ask you!” When we think of God as a fairy in the sky granting our wish list, I mean “prayer list” we suspend disbelief in what he asks us to do. We should be writing our own book of Acts as we feed the poor, release the oppressed, look after the orphan and widow…but they are just not as sexy as enjoying church life and worship but those things overlook our living sacrifice…our spiritual act of worship..our sacred sacrifice.
